Which actor played Lord Bullingdon in Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon?

The story behind the answer

Leon Vitali played Lord Bullingdon in Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon.

Lord Bullingdon is the son of Lady Lyndon and her first husband. As an adult, he resents the social climber Redmond Barry, who has married his mother and taken the title of Barry Lyndon. Bullingdon’s hostility eventually leads to a formal challenge and a decisive confrontation.

Vitali’s performance is notable because he portrays Bullingdon across different stages of the character’s life. Vitali later became one of Kubrick’s close collaborators, working as a casting adviser and assisting with other productions, including Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut.

The role is sometimes misattributed to Ryan O’Neal, who plays the adult Barry, or to Dominic Savage, who appears as the younger Bullingdon. Leon Vitali is specifically credited as the adult Lord Bullingdon.
