Dominic West played Lara Croft’s father, Lord Richard Croft, in the 2018 film Tomb Raider.
In the film, Richard Croft is an archaeologist who disappears while investigating the Japanese legend of Himiko. His disappearance motivates Lara to follow his research and travel to Yamatai, where she hopes to discover what happened to him.
West’s performance gives the reboot a family-centered storyline rather than presenting Lara only as an independent treasure hunter. The mystery surrounding Richard connects the film’s emotional arc to its archaeological adventure and helps explain Lara’s determination to continue his work.
The cast also includes Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, Walton Goggins as Mathias Vogel and Daniel Wu as Lu Ren. Daniel Craig, Ralph Fiennes and Jeremy Irons are all prominent actors, but none plays Richard Croft in this film.
