Which actor played Jeffrey Spender, son of the Cigarette Smoking Man?
Answer
Chris Owens
Answer
Chris Owens
Chris Owens played Jeffrey Spender, the son of the Cigarette Smoking Man, on The X-Files.
Spender first appears in the fifth-season episode "Patient X" as an FBI special agent assigned to the X-Files office after Mulder and Scully's forced departure. He is initially hostile toward Mulder's belief in extraterrestrial life, but his personal history gradually ties him directly to the show's central conspiracy. His mother is Cassandra Spender, an alleged alien abductee, and his father is the powerful Syndicate figure known as the Cigarette Smoking Man.
Owens was already familiar to X-Files viewers before playing Spender. He portrayed the younger Cigarette Smoking Man in "Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man" and "Demons," and also played the memorable Great Mutato in "The Post-Modern Prometheus." A common mix-up is confusing Owens's earlier roles with Spender himself: they are played by the same actor, but they are distinct characters.
Spender appears across the fifth and sixth seasons, returns in "William" after apparently being killed, and later reappears in the ninth and eleventh seasons.
