Which actor played Hyman Roth in The Godfather Part II?
Answer
Lee Strasberg
Answer
Lee Strasberg
Lee Strasberg played Hyman Roth in The Godfather Part II.
Hyman Roth is a powerful organized-crime financier whom Michael Corleone visits while expanding his business interests in Cuba and the United States. Roth presents himself as a reasonable elder statesman, but Michael increasingly suspects that he is involved in the plot against him.
Strasberg was best known outside the film for his influential work as an acting teacher and for leading the Actors Studio in New York. His performance as Roth was his major film role and earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
Hyman Roth is sometimes confused with real-life gangster Meyer Lansky, because the character’s appearance, financial role, and Cuban connections draw on Lansky. Roth is a fictional character, however, and Strasberg’s casting gave the role a distinctive, restrained presence.
