Which actor played Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter films?

The story behind the answer

Emma Watson played Hermione Granger in all eight Harry Potter films.

Watson was cast as Hermione when she was nine years old, after a series of auditions for the film adaptation of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. The role became her first professional acting credit and made her internationally famous alongside Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.

Hermione is one of the story’s central characters, known for her intelligence, preparation and loyalty. Watson appeared in every film from 2001 through 2011, portraying Hermione from her first arrival at Hogwarts through the Battle of Hogwarts and the epilogue.

A common mix-up is confusing Watson with Bonnie Wright, who played Ginny Weasley, or Evanna Lynch, who played Luna Lovegood. Watson also reprised Hermione in the 2022 stage production’s filmed reunion special Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, but that special was not a new Harry Potter film.
