Beyoncé played Foxxy Cleopatra in the 2002 film Austin Powers in Goldmember.
Foxxy Cleopatra is an undercover agent and the romantic partner of Mike Myers’s Austin Powers. The character is styled as a flamboyant 1970s-inspired action heroine, and Beyoncé’s performance helped make the role one of the film’s most recognizable new additions.
Austin Powers in Goldmember was Beyoncé’s feature-film debut. The movie also starred Michael Caine as Nigel Powers, Seth Green as Scott Evil, and Beyoncé’s future husband Jay-Z in a brief appearance in the opening sequence. Its plot combines spy-film parody with music, costume, and comedy references.
The role came before Beyoncé’s major solo album release in 2003. Viewers sometimes confuse Foxxy Cleopatra with characters played by Halle Berry in the earlier Austin Powers films, but Beyoncé is the actor who portrayed Foxxy in Goldmember.
