Which actor played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show?

The story behind the answer

Tim Curry played Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The role made Curry internationally famous and became the defining performance of his early career.

Curry had already originated Frank-N-Furter in the stage musical The Rocky Horror Show, first performed in London in 1973. The film reunited him with director Jim Sharman and writer Richard O'Brien, who also played Riff Raff. That theatrical background helped Curry bring the character's flamboyant confidence, comic menace, and musical presence to the screen.

The character is a self-styled mad scientist who creates Rocky, an artificially made muscular man, in a parody of classic science-fiction and horror films. A common mix-up is confusing Curry with Barry Bostwick, who played Brad, or Richard O'Brien, who played Riff Raff. Curry also appeared in the 2016 television remake, but played the Criminologist rather than Frank-N-Furter.
