Which actor played Desmond Hume?

The story behind the answer

Henry Ian Cusick played Desmond Hume in Lost. Desmond is introduced as the mysterious inhabitant of the Swan station, where he has been living alone and repeatedly entering a sequence into a computer to prevent an unexplained catastrophe.

Cusick was born in Trujillo, Peru, in 1967 and was raised in several countries, including Spain, Trinidad and Tobago, and Scotland. He trained at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and began his career in classical theatre before moving into television and film.

Lost first used Cusick as a recurring guest actor in the second season, but Desmond soon became central to the show’s mythology. His relationship with Penny Widmore, his time with the Royal Scots, and his connection to the island’s electromagnetic forces all became major storylines. Cusick’s performance earned him a Primetime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

Viewers sometimes confuse Cusick with other prominent Lost actors. Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje played Mr. Eko, Jeremy Davies played Daniel Faraday, and Michael Emerson played Ben Linus—not Desmond.
