Dulé Hill played Bill Williams, Dean Williams’s father, in the 2021 television series The Wonder Years.
Hill’s character is part of the Williams family at the center of the reboot. The series follows 12-year-old Dean Williams, played by Elisha “EJ” Williams, as he grows up in Montgomery, Alabama, during the late 1960s. Bill is Dean’s father, while Saycon Sengbloh plays Dean’s mother, Lillian.
The 2021 series reimagines the premise of the 1988 original rather than continuing Kevin Arnold’s story. Don Cheadle narrates as the adult Dean, paralleling Daniel Stern’s narration as the adult Kevin in the original. That parallel sometimes leads viewers to confuse the narrator with the on-screen father, but Cheadle does not play Bill.
The answer is also easy to confuse with the reboot’s other adult performers. Allen Maldonado plays Coach Long, while Spence Moore II plays Bruce Williams, Dean’s older brother. Hill’s Bill Williams is the father in the main Williams household.
