Which actor played David Phillips, the assistant medical examiner, on CSI?

The story behind the answer

David Berman played David Phillips, the assistant medical examiner on CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. The character worked in the Las Vegas crime lab alongside chief medical examiner Dr. Al Robbins.

Phillips was introduced early in the series and became a familiar presence in the morgue and autopsy scenes. His colleagues nicknamed him “Super Dave” after he saved a victim's life during an autopsy, a remarkable event that shaped the character's informal reputation.

Berman appeared in the series from 2000 through 2015. David Phillips was recurring during the earlier seasons and became a main cast character from season ten onward. The character later married Amy and had a child named Joshua, adding a personal storyline to his forensic work.

Jon Wellner is a frequent CSI cast member, but he played laboratory technician Henry Andrews, not David Phillips. Robert David Hall played Robbins, the chief medical examiner, while Eric Szmanda played DNA specialist Greg Sanders. Berman also worked behind the scenes as an entertainment researcher and co-founded Entertainment Research Consultants.
