Little Simz won the Mercury Prize for her album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert. The British rapper received the 2022 prize for the record, which was praised for combining intimate self-examination with expansive orchestration, cinematic arrangements and sharply detailed rap writing.
Released in September 2021, Sometimes I Might Be Introvert is Little Simz’s fourth studio album. Its title reflects the tension between public confidence and private retreat, while tracks such as “Introvert,” “Woman” and “I Love You, I Hate You” explore identity, family, ambition and vulnerability. Producer Inflo was a key creative collaborator on the project.
The award was presented at the 2022 Mercury Prize ceremony, not in the year the album appeared. That timing can cause confusion because the Mercury Prize typically honors albums released during the preceding eligibility period. Little Simz had also been shortlisted for 2019’s Grey Area, making the later victory a significant progression in her career.
