Folklore is the 2020 Taylor Swift album that includes “august” and won Album of the Year.
Swift surprise-released Folklore on July 24, 2020, through Republic Records. It was her eighth studio album and marked a move toward indie folk, alternative rock, chamber pop, and dream-pop textures. “august” appears among the album’s standard-edition tracks.
At the 63rd Annual Grammy Awards, Folklore won Album of the Year. Swift performed “cardigan,” “august,” and “willow” in a medley at that ceremony, connecting the Folklore-era songs in a woodland-themed staging.
Evermore is the common mix-up because it was released later in 2020 and shares collaborators and a subdued storytelling style. However, “august” belongs to Folklore. The album’s fictional teenage love-triangle songs and the track’s annual August streaming revival helped make it one of Swift’s most discussed releases.
