Which 2017 musical film stars Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum?

The 2017 musical film starring Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum is The Greatest Showman.

Directed by Michael Gracey, the film dramatizes the rise of American showman and circus impresario P.T. Barnum. Jackman plays Barnum alongside Zac Efron, Michelle Williams, Rebecca Ferguson, and Zendaya. Its original songs, including “This Is Me,” “A Million Dreams,” and “The Greatest Show,” were written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.

The movie was inspired by Barnum’s life but takes substantial artistic liberties. It presents him as a visionary champion of outsiders, while the historical Barnum was also a controversial promoter who used sensationalism and questionable exhibitions to attract audiences. The film’s version of Jenny Lind’s relationship with Barnum is particularly fictionalized.

The Greatest Showman was a major commercial success despite mixed critical reviews. It earned about $472 million worldwide and became especially popular through its soundtrack and sing-along screenings.
