Which 2016 stage play continues Harry Potter’s story, with a script credited to J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany?

The story behind the answer

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the 2016 stage play that continues Harry Potter’s story.

The play is based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany, with Thorne writing the script and Tiffany directing the original production. It is set nineteen years after the events of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and follows Harry as an adult employee of the Ministry of Magic.

The main young characters are Harry’s son Albus Severus Potter and Draco Malfoy’s son Scorpius Malfoy. Their friendship and a dangerous attempt to alter the past drive the plot. The play therefore extends the wizarding world without being an eighth novel in Rowling’s original prose series.

The first production opened in London’s West End in 2016. Its published text was issued as a “Special Rehearsal Edition” and later as a “Definitive Edition.” The work has also been staged internationally, with productions adapting the performance to local theaters and casts.
