The 2015 journalism drama about The Boston Globe’s investigation that won Best Picture is Spotlight.
Directed by Tom McCarthy and written by McCarthy and Josh Singer, the film follows the Globe’s investigative Spotlight team as it uncovers the Catholic Archdiocese of Boston’s decades-long cover-up of child sexual abuse by priests.
The ensemble cast includes Michael Keaton, Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, Brian d’Arcy James, Liev Schreiber, and Stanley Tucci. The real investigation earned the Globe the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service.
Spotlight won Best Picture and Best Original Screenplay at the 88th Academy Awards. All the President’s Men is a frequent comparison because it dramatizes investigative reporting too, but it portrays the Washington Post’s Watergate investigation and was released in 1976.
