Answer
Red Tails
Answer
Red Tails
The 2012 Tuskegee Airmen film developed by George Lucas was Red Tails.
Red Tails is a war film about the Tuskegee Airmen, the African-American pilots and ground personnel who served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. The movie dramatizes their combat missions from a base in southern Italy, using fictional characters inspired by the experiences of real Tuskegee airmen.
Lucas began developing the project around 1988 after learning more about the unit. He originally imagined a much longer, epic-style story, but the production eventually focused on the pilots’ combat experiences. Lucasfilm researchers interviewed surviving airmen and obtained access to original mission logbooks while the project was being prepared.
Anthony Hemingway directed the finished film, with John Ridley writing the screenplay and George Lucas serving as executive producer. Lucas also directed additional material during reshoots. Released by 20th Century Fox in January 2012, Red Tails was produced by Lucasfilm and became the company’s final independently made feature before Disney acquired Lucasfilm later that year. Its companion documentary, Double Victory, explored the historical airmen in greater detail.
