The 2004 TV series about survivors of a plane crash on a mysterious island is Lost.
Lost follows the survivors of Oceanic Airlines Flight 815 after it crashes while traveling from Sydney to Los Angeles. The group lands on a remote island in the South Pacific, where survival problems quickly combine with mysteries involving the island’s history, strange phenomena, and other inhabitants. Matthew Fox plays spinal surgeon Jack Shephard, while the ensemble includes Evangeline Lilly, Terry O’Quinn, Jorge Garcia, and Josh Holloway.
Created by Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams, and Damon Lindelof, the series premiered on ABC in September 2004. Its storytelling used flashbacks, flash-forwards, and later flash-sideways sequences to reveal the characters’ lives and connect them to the island. The first season introduced the Smoke Monster, the Others, and the Dharma Initiative. Survivor is a reality competition rather than a scripted crash-survival mystery, while Heroes and The 4400 focus on people with unusual abilities rather than a stranded-flight ensemble. Lost ran for six seasons and concluded in 2010.
