Britney is the 2001 Britney Spears album that includes the hit “I'm a Slave 4 U.” Released as Spears’s third studio album on November 6, 2001, Britney marked a shift from the teen-pop image associated with her earlier records toward a more mature pop and R&B sound.
“I'm a Slave 4 U” opens the album and was released as its lead single in September 2001. Written and produced by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo of the Neptunes, the dance-pop and R&B track became one of Spears’s signature songs. Its provocative choreography and a performance featuring a python at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards made it especially memorable.
The album also includes “Overprotected,” “I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” and “Boys.” It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and helped establish Spears as one of the defining pop stars of the early 2000s.
A common mix-up is with In the Zone, Spears’s 2003 album, which contains “Toxic.” Femme Fatale followed in 2011, while Oops!... I Did It Again was her second studio album, released in 2000.
