Tupac Shakur’s 1996 album All Eyez on Me became the first hip-hop studio album released as a double album.
Death Row Records released the album on February 13, 1996, while Shakur was at the height of his renewed public profile. It contains four sides across two discs and combines solo tracks with guest appearances from artists including Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Nate Dogg.
The album produced major singles such as “California Love,” “How Do U Want It,” and “I Ain’t Mad at Cha.” It was certified diamond by the RIAA, signifying shipments of more than 10 million units in the United States.
The album is distinct from The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, which was released later in 1996 under Tupac’s Makaveli name.
