Which 1988 album was Big Daddy Kane’s debut studio release?

The story behind the answer

Big Daddy Kane’s 1988 debut studio album was Long Live the Kane.

Released on June 21, 1988, by Cold Chillin’ Records, Long Live the Kane introduced one of hip hop’s most influential technical MCs to a wider audience. Kane was known for intricate rhyme patterns, confident delivery, and precise control of rhythm and flow.

The album includes “Raw,” one of his signature songs, along with “Ain’t No Half-Steppin’” and “Set It Off.” Production was handled primarily by Marley Marl, whose work with the Juice Crew helped define the sound of late-1980s New York hip hop.

Big Daddy Kane’s follow-up album, It’s a Big Daddy Thing, arrived in 1989 and included “Smooth Operator.” Because the titles are similarly phrased and both belong to his early catalog, they are sometimes mixed up. Long Live the Kane is the debut; It’s a Big Daddy Thing is the second studio album.
