Live Aid was held simultaneously at Wembley Stadium and John F. Kennedy Stadium.
The benefit concert took place on July 13, 1985, to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia. The main performances were staged in London and Philadelphia, creating a transatlantic event broadcast to a global television audience.
Organized by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure, Live Aid featured artists including Queen, U2, David Bowie, Madonna, Elton John, and Bob Dylan. Queen’s set at Wembley became one of the event’s most celebrated performances.
Live Aid is sometimes confused with Live 8, a series of concerts held in 2005 to encourage action on global poverty. It also differs from the earlier Concert for Bangladesh, which was organized by George Harrison and Ravi Shankar in 1971.
