Which 1983 song gave Irene Cara a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 from the film Flashdance?

“Flashdance... What a Feeling” gave Irene Cara a Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 in 1983.

The song was written for the film Flashdance by Giorgio Moroder, Keith Forsey and Irene Cara. Cara performed it for the movie’s closing sequence, where it accompanies Alex Owens’ climactic dance audition.

The single reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1983 and stayed there for six weeks. It also topped charts in several other countries and became one of the defining movie songs of the 1980s.

At the 1984 Academy Awards, the song won Best Original Song. It also won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. “Fame,” another Cara-associated song, came from the earlier film Fame and television series, but it did not become her Hot 100 No. 1.
