Which 1979 record label released Sister Sledge’s album We Are Family?
Answer
Cotillion Records
Answer
Cotillion Records
Cotillion Records released Sister Sledge’s 1979 album We Are Family.
The album was produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic, who also wrote and played on much of the material. Its title song became an enduring disco anthem, while “He’s the Greatest Dancer” supplied another major hit. The record connected Sister Sledge’s vocal harmonies with Chic’s sharply defined rhythm-guitar and bass sound.
Cotillion was an Atlantic Records subsidiary, and the album was issued through that label structure. We Are Family reached number three on the US Billboard 200 and helped make Sister Sledge internationally prominent. Its success also demonstrated how production teams associated with Chic could shape the sound of other artists.
Casablanca Records is a frequent wrong answer because it was strongly associated with major disco acts such as Donna Summer and the Village People. TK Records is another plausible confusion because of its Miami-based disco history. The specific label for We Are Family was Cotillion.
