Baccara’s 1977 album “Baccara” contained the international hit “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie.”
Baccara was a Spanish female duo consisting of Mayte Mateus and María Mendiolo. Their debut album followed the success of “Yes Sir, I Can Boogie,” a song produced by Rolf Soja and written by Frank Dostal and Anthony Monn.
The single became one of the most successful recordings by a female duo in European pop history. It reached number one in numerous countries, including the United Kingdom, where it became the first single by a Spanish act to top the chart.
The album title is simply “Baccara,” which can cause confusion because the group and record share the same name. The duo’s later releases did not match the first single’s extraordinary international impact.
