The 1976 United States Bicentennial quarter featured a colonial drummer on its reverse.
The United States Mint created special circulating designs for the quarter, half dollar, and dollar to mark the nation’s 200th anniversary. The quarter showed a colonial drummer surrounded by a torch and thirteen stars.
Jack L. Ahr designed the quarter’s reverse. Seth Huntington designed the half dollar’s Independence Hall image, while Dennis R. Williams designed the dollar showing the Liberty Bell superimposed on the Moon.
The coins carried the dual date 1776–1976, linking the original Declaration era with the Bicentennial year. The quarter design was used during 1975 and 1976 production and was replaced after the anniversary period.
