Competing then as Bruce Jenner, Jenner won the gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Canada. The decathlon combines 10 track-and-field events across two days, testing sprinting, jumping, throwing, and endurance skills. Jenner set a world record with a score of 8,618 points.

The victory made Jenner an internationally recognized athlete before the later television career associated with the Kardashian–Jenner family. Jenner publicly came out as transgender in 2015 and subsequently used the name Caitlyn Jenner.
