Which 1975 O’Jays song became a major Philadelphia soul and disco-era dance-floor hit?

The story behind the answer

The O’Jays’ 1975 song “I Love Music” became a major Philadelphia soul and disco-era dance-floor hit.

Written by Gamble and Huff with Cary Gilbert, “I Love Music” was produced by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff for Philadelphia International Records. Its extended arrangement, orchestral textures and celebratory chorus helped connect the group’s Philadelphia soul sound with the emerging disco audience.

The song appeared on the album Family Reunion and was issued in both a shorter single version and a longer album presentation. It reached the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 and became especially influential in clubs, where extended versions allowed DJs to sustain the groove.

“I Love Music” is sometimes confused with “Love Train,” the O’Jays’ earlier and more explicitly identified signature hit. Both songs were written within the Philadelphia International sound, but “I Love Music” is the later 1975 dance-floor record whose title directly celebrates the musical experience.
