Which 1964 album became The Beatles’ first US Billboard 200 number-one album?

The story behind the answer

Meet the Beatles! became The Beatles’ first US Billboard 200 number-one album in 1964.

Capitol Records released the album in the United States on 20 January 1964, shortly before the band’s first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. It was based largely on the British album With the Beatles but used a different track listing and cover presentation for the American market.

Meet the Beatles! reached number one on the Billboard album chart on 15 February 1964 and stayed there for 11 weeks. Its success reflected the rapid spread of Beatlemania in the United States after “I Want to Hold Your Hand” topped the American singles chart.

The album is not the same release as Please Please Me, The Beatles’ first UK studio album. Nor should it be confused with A Hard Day’s Night, which followed later in 1964 and served as the soundtrack to the group’s first feature film.
