Which 1916 gallery exhibition first introduced Georgia O'Keeffe's work to Alfred Stieglitz?

The story behind the answer

The 1916 exhibition at 291 first introduced Georgia O'Keeffe's work to Alfred Stieglitz.

The gallery known as 291 was operated by Alfred Stieglitz at 291 Fifth Avenue in New York City. In 1916, photographer and art educator Anita Pollitzer showed Stieglitz some of O'Keeffe’s abstract charcoal drawings, and he exhibited them at 291.

This event became a major turning point in O'Keeffe’s public career. Stieglitz was impressed by the drawings and began presenting her work to New York audiences. Their professional relationship later became personal, and they married in 1924.

291 was named for its street address and had earlier promoted European avant-garde artists as well as American modernists. It should not be confused with the Armory Show, the large 1913 exhibition that introduced many Americans to European modern art.
