Which 1908 painting won Georgia O'Keeffe a scholarship from William Merritt Chase?

The story behind the answer

Dead Rabbit with Copper Pot won Georgia O'Keeffe a scholarship from William Merritt Chase in 1908.

O'Keeffe painted the still life while studying at the Art Students League in New York. Chase, one of her instructors, awarded her a scholarship after the work received recognition in a school competition.

The painting belongs to an early, academically trained phase of O'Keeffe's career. It does not look like the large-scale flowers, desert bones, and abstract watercolors for which she later became known. That difference is useful when tracing how her technique and subject matter changed.

O'Keeffe soon faced financial difficulties and temporarily stopped making art full-time, working as a commercial artist and teacher. Her later return to personal experimentation helped lead to the abstract drawings exhibited by Alfred Stieglitz in 1916.
