Which 1615 campaign ended Toyotomi rule after the fall of Osaka Castle?
Answer
Siege of Osaka
Answer
Siege of Osaka
The Siege of Osaka in 1615 ended Toyotomi rule after the fall of Osaka Castle.
The conflict had two stages. During the Winter Campaign of 1614, Tokugawa Ieyasu’s forces attacked the Toyotomi stronghold but reached a negotiated settlement. Tensions soon returned, and the Summer Campaign began in 1615. Tokugawa forces defeated the Toyotomi army, entered Osaka Castle, and destroyed the last major political challenge to the Tokugawa shogunate.
Toyotomi Hideyoshi had built Osaka Castle as a major center of power, and his son Toyotomi Hideyori inherited the family’s position. Hideyori died during the final fighting, bringing the Toyotomi line’s political challenge to an end.
The victory secured Tokugawa dominance and helped establish the long peace associated with the Edo period. It followed the 1600 Battle of Sekigahara but was a separate conflict.
