Which 1099 First Crusade siege ended with crusader forces capturing Jerusalem?

The story behind the answer

The 1099 First Crusade siege that ended with crusader forces capturing Jerusalem was the Siege of Jerusalem.

Crusader armies reached Jerusalem in June 1099 after taking or bypassing several fortified cities during their march through the eastern Mediterranean. The city was defended by forces of the Fatimid Caliphate, which had recently taken Jerusalem from the Seljuk Turks.

The crusaders constructed siege towers and other equipment despite shortages of wood and supplies. On 15 July 1099, troops entered the city, ending the siege and establishing Jerusalem as the capital of the newly created Kingdom of Jerusalem.

The capture was followed by widespread killings of inhabitants, a documented and controversial part of the event. The siege is separate from the 1187 Battle of Hattin, after which Saladin recaptured Jerusalem from the crusader kingdom.
