Where was Yes founded?
Answer
London
Answer
London
Yes was founded in London in 1968. The progressive rock band emerged when singer Jon Anderson and bassist Chris Squire began working together in the London music scene.
The original lineup also included guitarist Peter Banks, keyboardist Tony Kaye, and drummer Bill Bruford. Several members had links to earlier groups, including Mabel Greer's Toyshop, and the new band first performed under the name Yes in August 1968. Their earliest shows took place in England before they established themselves on London's club circuit.
London is sometimes confused with East Mersea in Essex because Yes played its first concert under that name at a youth camp there on 3 August 1968. That was the band's first gig, not its place of formation. The group recorded its self-titled debut album in 1969, blending rock with jazz, classical, and psychedelic influences.
Yes later became one of progressive rock's defining acts through albums such as The Yes Album, Fragile, and Close to the Edge. Their best-known songs include “Roundabout” and “Owner of a Lonely Heart.”
