Where was the United States Declaration of Independence adopted?

The story behind the answer

The United States Declaration of Independence was adopted in Philadelphia.

The Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia while the colonies were at war with Great Britain. Congress approved the final wording on July 4, 1776, at the Pennsylvania State House, the building now known as Independence Hall.

Philadelphia was a major political and commercial center in British North America. Its location made it an important meeting place for delegates from the colonies, and the city remained central to early national government after independence.

The Declaration is closely associated with Independence Hall, but the building’s name changed over time. It was originally the Pennsylvania State House and also served as the meeting place where Congress debated independence and later worked on the Articles of Confederation.
