Where was the Declaration of Independence adopted, a founding event remembered by America250?
Answer
Independence Hall
Answer
Independence Hall
The Declaration of Independence was adopted at Independence Hall, a founding event remembered by America250.
The building was originally called the Pennsylvania State House. It stood in Philadelphia and served as a meeting place for the Second Continental Congress. On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the Declaration there.
Independence Hall also hosted the Constitutional Convention in 1787, where delegates drafted the United States Constitution. This makes the building important to both the Revolutionary era and the creation of the federal government.
A common mix-up is its name: the building was not originally called Independence Hall. That name became associated with it later because of the Declaration and the Constitution. The site is now part of Independence National Historical Park and was designated a World Heritage Site in 1979.
