Where was the 1787 Constitutional Convention held?
Answer
Philadelphia
Answer
Philadelphia
The 1787 Constitutional Convention was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Delegates met at the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall. The convention began on May 25, 1787, and its delegates eventually produced the United States Constitution, which was signed on September 17.
The meeting was originally called to revise the Articles of Confederation, the first governing framework of the United States. Instead, delegates decided to create an entirely new system of government with separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
Philadelphia had already played a central role in the founding era. The Declaration of Independence had been adopted there in 1776, and the city served as the national capital under the Confederation and later as the temporary federal capital before Washington, D.C.
