Answer
London
King Crimson was founded in London. The progressive rock band formed there in 1968 around Robert Fripp, Michael Giles, Greg Lake, Ian McDonald, and lyricist Peter Sinfield.
Its roots reached back to Giles, Giles and Fripp, a trio formed in 1967 by Robert Fripp and brothers Michael and Peter Giles. The lineup expanded when Ian McDonald and Peter Sinfield became involved, while Greg Lake joined as vocalist and bassist. The first King Crimson incarnation was formed on November 30, 1968, with rehearsals beginning in January 1969.
The group made its first live appearance at London's Speakeasy Club on April 9, 1969. Its major breakthrough came that July, when it played before a huge audience at the Rolling Stones' free concert in Hyde Park.
King Crimson's debut album, In the Court of the Crimson King, appeared in October 1969. It became a landmark of progressive rock, blending classical influences, jazz, experimental improvisation, Mellotron textures, and complex rhythms. Robert Fripp remained the band's only constant member through its many later lineups.
