Where was American artist Georgia O'Keeffe born in 1887?

Georgia O'Keeffe was born in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, in 1887.

She was born on November 15, 1887, to Francis Calyxtus O'Keeffe and Ida Totto O'Keeffe. Her family lived on a dairy farm near Sun Prairie, and she was the second of seven children. Her early rural surroundings later informed some of her interest in natural forms and landscapes.

O'Keeffe began art training as a child and later studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Art Students League of New York. She eventually became associated with American modernism, although her career moved through several distinct artistic phases.

Sun Prairie is sometimes confused with Madison because the communities are close in southern Wisconsin. Madison is the state capital, but O'Keeffe's birthplace was the separate city of Sun Prairie.
