Where was Aerosmith's first public performance at?

The story behind the answer

Aerosmith’s first public performance was at a high school—Nipmuc Regional High School in Mendon, Massachusetts, on November 6, 1970. The band played a student dance in the school’s gymnasium.

At the time, Aerosmith was still a young local group built around Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Tom Hamilton, Joey Kramer, and Ray Tabano. The performance was far removed from the arena tours and record sales that would later define the band, but it marked the beginning of Aerosmith’s public concert history.

The school was later rebuilt and became associated with Miscoe Hill Middle School. This can cause confusion because some accounts simply call the venue Nipmuc High School, while others describe it as a student dance or the band’s first paid concert. All refer to the same early performance in Mendon.
