Where is the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum located?
Answer
Santa Fe, New Mexico
Answer
Santa Fe, New Mexico
The Georgia O'Keeffe Museum is located in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
The museum opened in 1997, eleven years after O'Keeffe's death. It is devoted to her life, art, and continuing influence, and it holds a substantial collection of her paintings, drawings, and other materials. Santa Fe was a fitting location because O'Keeffe lived and worked in New Mexico for many years.
The museum is not the same as O'Keeffe's former homes and studios. Her Abiquiú residence and studio and her Ghost Ranch house are separate historic places associated with her life. The museum itself is in Santa Fe, a major cultural center in northern New Mexico.
Its exhibitions and research help place O'Keeffe's Southwestern work alongside earlier abstract paintings, New York subjects, and works from other periods. The institution also preserves biographical and archival material, making it more than a gallery devoted to a single set of landscapes.
