Where is the band Sublime originally from?

The story behind the answer

Sublime originally came from Long Beach, California. The ska-punk band formed there in 1988 around vocalist and guitarist Bradley Nowell, bassist Eric Wilson, and drummer Bud Gaugh.

The group grew out of Long Beach's local punk, reggae, and skate scenes. Its early performances included backyard parties and small clubs, and the band created Skunk Records to release its own music when venues were hesitant to book them. Their 1992 independent album, 40 Oz. to Freedom, helped establish their blend of punk rock, reggae, ska, and hip-hop.

Sublime's breakthrough came after Los Angeles radio station KROQ began playing “Date Rape.” Their self-titled 1996 album later produced well-known songs including “What I Got,” “Santeria,” and “Doin' Time.” A common mix-up is confusing Sublime with Sublime with Rome, a later project involving surviving members; the original band's defining home was Long Beach.
