Where is Tesla’s original Gigafactory 1 located?
Answer
Sparks, Nevada
Answer
Sparks, Nevada
Tesla’s original Gigafactory, commonly called Gigafactory 1, is located in Sparks, Nevada.
The facility was developed in partnership with Panasonic to manufacture lithium-ion battery cells, battery packs, electric motors, and other components. Construction began in the mid-2010s, and the factory became a central part of Tesla’s effort to increase battery production for vehicles and energy products.
The building is in Storey County near Reno, although “Reno” is often used informally when describing its location. Its name changed over time as Tesla added factories in other regions, including Shanghai, Berlin, and Texas.
Gigafactory Nevada should not be confused with Tesla’s Fremont vehicle plant, which is in California, or Gigafactory Texas, which opened later near Austin. The Nevada site is especially associated with battery-cell production and the Model 3 supply chain.
