Where did the First Continental Congress meet in 1774, before the America250 independence era?
Answer
Carpenters' Hall
Answer
Carpenters' Hall
The First Continental Congress met at Carpenters' Hall in Philadelphia in 1774.
Delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies gathered there from September 5 to October 26. Georgia did not send delegates. The meeting responded to the punitive Intolerable Acts passed by Parliament after the Boston Tea Party and sought a coordinated colonial response to British policies.
Carpenters' Hall was the meeting place of the First Continental Congress, while the later Second Continental Congress met at the Pennsylvania State House, now called Independence Hall. That distinction is often blurred because both congresses met in Philadelphia and both helped shape the movement that led to independence. The first Congress adopted the Continental Association, which organized a colonial boycott of British goods.
