Where did the 1787 Constitutional Convention take place?

The story behind the answer

The 1787 Constitutional Convention took place in Philadelphia.

Delegates met in the Pennsylvania State House, now known as Independence Hall, from May 25 to September 17, 1787. Although the gathering was initially intended to revise the Articles of Confederation, the delegates ultimately drafted an entirely new Constitution.

George Washington presided over the convention. James Madison played a major role in preparing the Virginia Plan and recording the proceedings, while delegates such as Benjamin Franklin, Alexander Hamilton, and Gouverneur Morris helped shape the final document.

The convention’s work created the framework of the federal government and established separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches. The Constitution was signed on September 17, 1787, a date that provides another important milestone in the long historical arc celebrated by America250.
