What congressional body coordinates the United States Semiquincentennial?

The story behind the answer

The United States Semiquincentennial Commission coordinates the national 250th-anniversary observance.

Congress created the commission in 2016 to promote and coordinate the United States Semiquincentennial. Its work covers the nationwide commemoration of the Declaration of Independence’s adoption in 1776.

The commission is commonly associated with the America250 name and works with a private nonprofit partner, the America250 Foundation. The American Battlefield Trust was selected in 2018 to serve as the commission’s administrative secretariat and help establish its operations.

The commission should not be confused with the Continental Congress, which governed the revolutionary-era colonies, or with the National Archives, which preserves the engrossed Declaration. Its role is modern planning and coordination rather than the creation or custody of the original founding document.
