Where did Taylor Swift record her vocals for Folklore, including “august”?

The story behind the answer

Taylor Swift recorded her vocals for Folklore, including “august,” in her Los Angeles home studio.

The album was created during the early-2020 quarantine period, when Swift worked remotely with Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff. Dessner worked from the Hudson Valley, while Antonoff worked from New York City, allowing the collaborators to exchange instrumental and vocal ideas without sharing one studio.

“august” began with an instrumental produced by Antonoff. Swift received it and wrote the lyrics intuitively, describing the writing as happening on the spot. Her home recording setup therefore became part of the album’s unusual remote-production history.

Long Pond Studio is closely connected with Folklore because the album’s documentary was filmed there and Swift performed the songs there. It was not the location of her original vocal recording for the album.
