Where did Georgia O'Keeffe study art in New York City?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe studied art at the Art Students League in New York City.

She attended the school from 1907 to 1908 after moving east to continue her training. At the Art Students League, she studied under William Merritt Chase, a prominent American painter and teacher. Her work there earned a scholarship to the League's summer school in Lake George, New York.

The Art Students League was an important independent art school known for training artists outside a traditional university structure. O'Keeffe's early education there emphasized drawing and painting from observation, but her later development moved far beyond the academic style she initially learned.

A common mix-up is to name the University of Virginia, where O'Keeffe later taught and studied during summer periods, or the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, which she attended before New York. The Art Students League specifically refers to her New York City training in 1907–1908.
