Where did Georgia O'Keeffe study art before moving to New York in 1907?

The story behind the answer

Before moving to New York in 1907, Georgia O'Keeffe studied at the Art Institute of Chicago.

She attended the school from 1905 to 1906, receiving academic training in drawing and painting. She then continued her studies at the Art Students League in New York, where she worked under William Merritt Chase and won a scholarship for her still life.

This early education gave O'Keeffe a foundation in established artistic methods, even though she later moved toward abstraction and became known for a highly individual approach. Her career therefore included both rigorous academic training and a rejection of conventional expectations.

The institution is officially known today as the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, but the historical name relevant to her study was the Art Institute of Chicago. It should not be confused with her later New York school.
