Answer
Oxford, England
C.S. Lewis died in Oxford, England, on 22 November 1963.
Lewis suffered a serious illness in 1956 and experienced later health problems, including a heart attack in 1961. He died at his home, The Kilns, in Headington, Oxford, shortly before his sixty-fifth birthday. His death occurred on the same day that U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and that writers Aldous Huxley and Lewis also died.
The Kilns had been Lewis’s Oxford home for many years. He shared it with his brother Warren, and for a period with the American writer Joy Davidman. The house and its surrounding woodland became closely associated with Lewis’s private life and writing.
Lewis was buried in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church, Headington. The inscription on his gravestone comes from a poem by his brother and is often quoted in discussions of Lewis’s final years.
