Where did Arsenal play Coventry City in the 2026–27 Premier League opening match?

The story behind the answer

Arsenal played Coventry City at Emirates Stadium in the 2026–27 Premier League opening match.

The north London ground hosted the season’s first fixture on Friday 21 August 2026. Arsenal’s home venue is commonly called the Emirates, although its official name is Emirates Stadium. It replaced Highbury as Arsenal’s home in 2006.

The opening fixture was significant because Arsenal were defending Premier League champions and Coventry City were newly promoted. The league schedule therefore began with a meeting between the previous season’s champions and one of the Championship’s successful promoted sides.

Emirates Stadium is located in Holloway, London, and has a listed capacity of 60,704 for the 2026–27 season. It is one of the largest stadiums used by a Premier League club, though it is smaller than venues such as Old Trafford and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
